Every Day We’re Hustling
General campaign updates!
The Cambridge Advanced Learning Association endorsed me and Eugenia Schraa Huh! The group called me a “strong voice for twice-exceptional learners, concrete policy goals.” THANK YOU, CALA! (FYI – one of those concrete policy goals is to expand the HSEP program into middle school. More soon on that topic.)
2325 postcards distributed. Another round coming soon to a neighborhood near you.
I found the 1987 Concerned Black Staff report in the Cambridge Public Library archives!
Written by Sandra Dickerson, Caroline Hunter, and William McLaurin, “An Enrollment Study of Minority Academic Achievement at the Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School 1985-1986,” was the first analytic look at the gaps between demographic outcomes at CRLS. As per that report, “The overall patterns of over and under-representation are very consistent.” Forty years later, this is unfortunately still true.
Over the past week, I was so pleased to speak at the CNA Candidate Night and at the inaugural Cambridge Day School Committee Meet & Greet. Personal highlights:
talking with the former Cambridge assessor re the Trump administration policy’s effects on the City of Cambridge revenues
Speaking with a member of the Alliance of Cambridge Tenants about asking the most important two questions in education: “What are the individual needs of the kid in front of you? How can that child access a free and appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment?”
Discussing the role of local news with Cambridge Day board members. (I would really, really love to see a Cambridge resident oral history podcast.)
Coming up: The League of Women Voters is hosting a forum this Thursday, October 16th, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., at the Cambridge Public Library - Central Square Branch, 45 Pearl Street. All 18 candidates running for School Committee have been invited.
Thanks, everyone, I really appreciate the conversations and support!
More soon,
